A Guide to Bogus Claims — Permanent Health Insurance

The following statistical analysis cannot necessarily be taken at face value, but we thought it would be a useful indicator. Some 200 claims recently investigated on behalf of PHI/Disability insurers revealed:

Fraudulent claimants fell into one of 3 categories:

  1. Working whilst still making a claim.
  2. Showed no obvious signs of disability.
  3. Carrying out activities previously stated they were unable to do.

Profile of Fraudulent Claimants:

1. Gender:

Female — 26%
Male — 74%

2. Alleged Disability:

Back and Joints Pains — 50%
Post Viral Fatigue — 6%
Rheumatism/Arthritis — 7%
Stress/Depression — 16%
Injury/Accident — 7%
Other — 13%

3. Age:

Arithmetic average age was 43.63 years.
Broken down by age group:
20s — 1%
30s — 31%
40s — 48%
50s — 19%

4. Marital Status:

Married/Partner — 98%
Single ( living alone ) — 2%

5. Occupation:

Manual — 12.5%
Skilled Manual — 49%
White Collar — 22%
Company Directors — 12.5%
Professional — 5%
